How did you feel whenever your lovely parents bought you Christmas clothes when you were a child?
Sad or ecstatic?
Ecstatic, of course!
So, don’t blame the people of the twin cities of Warri and Effurun who were full of joy and celebration when they trooped out in their thousands, yesterday morning, Monday, November 27, 2023, to witness our dear governor, Rt. Hon. Sherriff F.O. Oborevwori flagging off the commencement of the construction work on the roads and bridges in their area, whose contract was sign in Asaba, the state capital, on Wednesday, October 18, 2023.
To them, the good times were back.
Having endured years of neglect, decay, and dilapidating infrastructure, they were happy to witness their governor’s BIG move to renew, regenerate and create new structure for their cities.
The people’s joy stemmed from the fact that the megalopolis which, no doubt, remains one of the leading commercial centres of the state has been in a state of comatose and a shadow of its past, for several years now.
The notorious bad roads, unkempt environment, and protracted traffic, therefore become a source of worry to them, hence their joy.
While performing the groundbreaking ceremony in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of the state, Governor Oborevwori remarked that the occasion was a fulfillment of the promise he made to the people of the state.

He reiterated the fact that the projects would ease traffic gridlock and vehicular movements in the affected areas, adding that it would change the face of the twin cities.
The promise-keeping governor added that the projects would, among other things, create employment and improve economic activities for engineers, artisans, labourers, food vendors, suppliers, transporters, quarry operators and so many others in the construction value chain.

“We have released the agreed sum as advance payment to the contractor, which on its part commenced surveys, final designs, sub-soil tests, and other activities precedent to the commencement of actual construction works. These are in addition to the establishment of site yards, offices, and life camps,” Governor Oborevwori disclosed.
“The cumulative contract sum for the four projects is seventy-seven billion, nine hundred and ninety-seven million, one hundred and fifty-nine thousand, three hundred and thirty-nine-naira, and ninety-one kobo (N77,997,159,339.91) only and the contractor has a completion period of twenty-seven-months.
“These four strategic projects are aimed at solving the gridlock often experienced between Effurun Roundabout, through PTI Road Junction to DSC Roundabout on the Effurun/Patani (East/West) Highway at Effurun. They will also ease vehicular movement at the stretch from Enerhen Junction, Effurun to Marine Gate, Warri, in Uvwie and Warri South Local Government Areas.
“As I said during the contract signing ceremony, these projects will not only change the face of the Warri-Effurun Metropolis, they will also ease the traffic congestion in the area and alleviate the hardship faced by commuters.”
“I urge the contractor to work relentlessly to meet the schedule we have agreed to. The immediate communities and their leaders should appreciate the enormous investment the government is making and join hands with us to ensure the speedy completion of these projects.
“Let me conclude by saying that the projects commencing today underscores our commitment and determination to improve road and transport infrastructure as contained in the MORE Agenda of this administration.
“We shall continue to aggressively upgrade them across the three senatorial districts in the state as this will drive development in other sectors,” Oborevwori said.
The governor assured that the company will deliver the work on schedule and in line with specifications.
Several personalities, from all walks of life, graced the occasion.

Prominent among them were the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, HRM Dr. Emmanuel Sideso, Abe I, the Olu of Warri Kingdom, Ogiame Atuwatse III, ably represented by Dr. Roland Oritsejafor, and the Chairmen of Uvwie and Warri South Local Government Areas, Hon. Ransom Onoyake and Dr. Michael Tidi, respectively.
All of them, in different statements, thanked and commended the governor for his vison and courage concerning the project, pledging their loyalty to him.
The event was remarkable in nature, religiously speaking!
How?
It was a fulfilment of the governor’s earlier promise of giving Warri and Effurun roads a face-lift, which he made to the people during his electioneering campaigns.
The governor re-echoed that promise during his inauguration speech he made in Asaba, the state capital, on May 29, 2023.
Part of the speech read: “Warri, the commercial nerve centre of the State, will be given special attention under this administration. The process has already commenced with the establishment of Warri, Uvwie, and Environs Development Agency, WUEDA.
“Before the ongoing Storm Water Project will be completed, the government will commence efforts at giving Warri and its environs a total facelift. Similarly, the ongoing rehabilitation work on the Warri Township Stadium will be expedited”.
To God be the glory, the governor fulfilled his promise to the people of Warri and Effurun in line with the biblical injunction, Ecclesiastes 5: 4,5, which enjoins every promise-giver to always keep his or her promise, and never to make one if he/she will be ready or willing to fulfill it..
Long live our promise-keeping governor! Long live Delta State! Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
